I’m back today with the latest instalment of my MeeBox Review series and today I’ll be giving you my thoughts on the July 2017 box as well as creating some nail art.
July’s MeeBox theme was Birds of Paradise and saw us receive three polishes, a stamping plate and a clean up tool. Let’s take a look at what we got!
A beautiful true red polish with tiny specks of gold glitter running through it. Perfect in two coats and can also be used for stamping.
This duo-chrome polish is truly stunning, shifting between a deep green and a vibrant purple. It’ll take you three coats to get this to full opacity, but worth it!
This incredibly pale grey shade is the perfect alternative to white and works well as a base or for stamping. Will work with one slightly thicker coat but best applied in two thin coats to avoid smudging.
This solution is great for clean-ups where you may have strayed off your nail bed, but is definitely missing a little glass pot to decant into as to not tarnish the solution in the bottle.
A stamping plate perfect for the theme, with 18 tropical designs ranging from birds to leafy prints. The stamper is great for beginners and pros alike.
For the nail art, I started with three coats of Dione on my thumb, index and pink fingers and waited for them dry. Once they had dried properly, I added some silver hoops atop of the nails.
For the remaining nails I took After the Storm and laid down a base, and then used a flamingo design from the stamping plate along with Rose Bower. To finish off, I gave them all a topcoat of Seche Vite.
When I heard the theme for this box, I was super excited but I have to be honest and say that this wasn’t my favourite box. I feel like the colours were lacking a little as they looked quite Christmassy when used together, I’d have much rather had a really bright pop of colour from another polish than the Leighton Denny corrector which I know I won’t get a lot of use out of as I’m a slave to acetone.
I’m not saying the colours we got weren’t beautiful, I really enjoy them and will use them again, just maybe not together. Dione is super pretty but I just couldn’t capture it on camera, and I’ll get tonnes of use out of the stamping polish as sometimes it’s nice to have something a little more toned down than a bright white! I already had the stamping plate so I’ll be donating that to give it a better home.
Overall, I do like what I got in this box, but I wouldn’t have gone with this mix of colours for the theme. As always, I’m excited to see what the next MeeBox holds!
